Pritzker Prize 2023: David Chipperfield wins ‘Nobel of architecture’ (msn.com)

I did not know about The Pritzker Prize before reading this article.  It apparently is regarded as the “Nobel of architecture” and has been around for 44 years.  In 2023, the winner was not focused on distinct design features but his buildings are designed specifically for each circumstance.  The 2023 winner is 69 year old Sir David Chipperfield.

One quote I enjoyed from this article and from Chipperfield himself is the following – “Architects have become products. And products have to be distinguishable from each other,” he said, adding: “So, they profile themselves, shape themselves and present themselves in slight opposition to each other. In a way, their signature and their autograph become part of their branding, and therefore their corporate and commercial success. I’ve somehow been shy of that, or at least I found that counterproductive.”

His designs circle the globe, and one I particularly enjoyed looking at is The Hepworth Wakefield, an art museum in the UK, is composed of 10 interlinked trapezoidal volumes.
